I was flabbergasted when I received a package from my brother in the mail a few days ago. He and his wife were back from a trip to Europe. He brought me back a plate from Dresden. Sweet of him to think of me and a plate is an appropriate souvenir for a potter. Okay, so, he put it in tiny tiny bubble wrap sleeve and then a bubble lined envelope and mailed it. That's it! Not even a fragile stamp. It shipped just fine. Beautiful, intact, in one piece! I put so much thought into how I package my work for shipping I would be on pins and needles if I sent a plate off in the mail that way. Kudos to you big brother. I was... flabbergasted. Who knew.
I'll still have to box and use packing material. The post office would not insure it any other way.
